Apparently worried that shifting of the birth and death records to the Archives will have a huge negative fallout across the state, the government on Wednesday decided to roll back the move by the State Registrar.
In fact, taking cognizance of the media reports over the imminent shifting of records from the taluka Sub Registrar offices, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday had a meeting with State Registrar PS Bodke and issued directions to maintain status quo over the shifting till further orders.
The Chief Minister’s intervention came after TCP Minister, Vijai Sardesai drew attention of Parrikar at the Wednesday Cabinet meeting that the move will only put the residents, especially from the rural areas of the state to great hardships if the birth and death records are shifted to the Archives, Panjim.
Sources said that both the Chief Minister and the TCP Minister had a meeting with the State Registrar soon after the Cabinet meeting and insisted to maintain status quo till further orders.
