Stating that it was the BJP government which handled the State's affairs in hard times when revenue of Rs 1500 crore was stopped due to mining ban, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday said the State government continued launching welfare schemes and carrying out developmental works in Goa.
He was speaking after felicitating Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral on his birthday.
Parrikar and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar felicitated Cabral in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza, Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, South Goa MP Adv Narendra Sawaikar and BJP Goa Pradesh president Vinay Tendulkar and others at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem.
Speaking further, Parrikar said despite the mining ban and deficit of Rs 1500 crore revenue, the BJP-led government tried hard to handle the State's functioning and its affairs fairly.
“The BJP government continued to carry out developmental works and giving welfare schemes to the people despite facing financial crunch,” he said.
He appreciated Cabral for giving a facelift to Curchorem constituency and encouraged him to serve the people of Curchorem.
Laxmikant Parsekar also appreciated Cabral and said he is good in social and political engineering. “Nilesh Cabral is a man of the common people.” he added.
Parsekar further said Goa is the only State which is receiving financial aid in regard to mining ban.
“No other State in the country is getting this aid for mining ban and this happened because of seasoned MLAs in BJP State government and they know the pulse of the people,” he said.
MP Sawaikar, Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai, Deputy Chief Minister D'Souza also spoke on the occasion.
About 3000 locals were present for the felicitation function.
