Patient dies, two hurt as ambulance collides with truck

OLD GOA

A 52-year-old patient from Cumbarjua was killed when the 108 ambulance which was taking him for treatment to the GMC hospital crashed against a truck along the Santa Cruz-Bambolim highway on Thursday.

Two others who were accompanying the patient, Prakash Naik, in the ambulance were also injured in the mishap.

According to Old Goa police, the patient was initially referred to Betki PHC. However, he was advised to be shifted to the GMC for further treatment.

Naik was then taken in a 108 ambulance to be shifted to GMC. When the ambulance reached the Santa Cruz-Bambolim highway, the driver apparently lost control of the ambulance when a loaded truck travelling in front slowed down.

“The ambulance then dashed against the rear of the truck and upon impact, the patient suffered head injuries resulting in his death,” the police informed.

Two others who were travelling in the ambulance also suffered injuries and were shifted to GMC for treatment.

The panchanama was conducted by Hawaldar Santosh Jadhav while Old Goa PSI Viraj Dhawaskar is conducting further investigations in the matter.
