There was a 72.35% turnout in elections to the seven panchayats in Mormugao Taluka on Wednesday and though a number of booths were identified as sensitive, elections were conducted peacefully without any untoward incident.
As many as 29,939 people of the 41,383 voters cast their vote across 62 wards and 73 polling booths, with 220 candidates in the fray for elections.
While Chicolna-Bogmalo panchayat secured the highest turnout at 78.12%, Cansualim panchayat saw the least percentage of voting at 66%.
Turnout in other panchayats were Chicalim (68.89%), Cortalim (72.48%), Quelosssim (76.85%), Sancoale (76.09%) and Velsao-Pale (67.04%).
The Kiran Niketan Primary School (Room No 3 ) polling booth in Ward 10 of Sancoale Panchayat saw the highest voting percentage (89.54%), while the Regina Mundi school (Room 3) in Ward 8 of Chicalim Panchayat saw the least voting percentage (39.26).
Voting in the Taluka began on a slow note but picked up later in the day with some places of Sancoale Panchayat witnessed voting till the last moment. The entire election process was conducted peacefully and no untoward incidents were reported during the election.
