Separate raids by different arms of the Goa police at Mapusa and Saligao on Thursday-Friday netted a cache of narcotic drugs (ganja and charas) worth Rs 6.8 lakh, the police said.
In the first instance, a team of the Crime Branch arrested Shyam Nandlal Chawan (22) at Mapusa and recovered some four kilograms of ganja worth Rs 4 lakh.
Nandlal, who is said to be a labourer residing at Vasco, was carrying the contraband in a backpack when the Crime Branch team conducted the raid at Morod, Mapusa.
In the second case, a team of the Saligao police station raided a spot near ‘Field Side Bar’ at Donvado, Saligao, and arrested Dinesh Kumar (30) carrying charas worth Rs 2.8 lakh.
The Saligao police team, comprising PSI Akshay Gaonkar and constables Srikrisna Redkar, Rahul Angolkar, Vinod Kaskar and Tulsidas Ganwas, acted swiftly on specific information and nabbed Kumar, a native of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, between 11 pm on Thursday and 2 am on Friday.
Kumar has been booked under sections 20(b) (ii)(B) of the NDPS Act 1985 and is in the custody of Saligao police. PSI Dishan Naik is investigating the case and is being supervised by his superiors PI Somnath Mhajik, DySP Viswesh Karpe and North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
