A pedestrian died after he was allegedly knocked down by a car at Agnel Ashram near Sai Marbles Enterprises, Verna, on Sunday evening.
According to Verna Police, the incident occurred at around 6.15 pm when the accused driver, Anil Naik of Fatorda-Margao was allegedly driving the car from Panaji towards Margao in a rash and negligent manner.
When the vehicle reached near Sai Marbles Enterprises, it allegedly rammed into pedestrian Pintu Gaud, a resident of Agnel College, Verna, and originally from Uttar Pradesh, who was walking along the roadside. Gaud sustained grievous injuries in the impact and later succumbed to his injuries.
The car subsequently collided with a parked truck, resulting in injuries to the accused driver as well.
Verna police have registered an offence under Sections 281, 125(a) and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is underway.
