With the hangover of sacking the Dhavalikar brothers still weighing on his mind, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday said people had welcomed his “courageous” decision, but added that BJP worked as a team with crucial decisions taken by
a team.
“From yesterday night (after sacking the Dhavalikar brothers) till now, I continue to get calls and messages saying, ‘Sir, whatever the consequences, you have taken a tough decision. You have shown courage. You have shown BJP will not take things lying down. We salute you’,” Parsekar poured his heart out while addressing the Vijay Sankalp Mahamelava in Calangute in the presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and others.
Speaking further, Parsekar said initially he tolerated the misgivings of the MGP leaders, but the badmouthing only began to intensify.
“I gave him a long rope. They thought they could say anything against the government and get away with it. Everything has a boundary,” he said.
He said people in Goa began to whisper whether the Chief Minister had self respect or not.
“For the last few days, I was getting calls from many karyakatas asking me what was going on. Our own minister has been spewing vitriolic against us,” the Chief Minister said.
Parsekar, however, made it clear that BJP is a party that works as a team.
“Just because Laxmikant Parsekar is the chief minister, all decisions are not taken by Laxmikant Parsekar alone,” he said.
“Although the decision to induct or remove any minister is the prerogative of the chief minister, such crucial decisions are taken by a group of senior leaders of BJP. That is why it took some time for the decision (sacking of Dhavalikars)…” he added.
He further said that BJP was a resilient party made up of hardworking and
selfless karyakatas.
He said at one time there was a perception that BJP was a party of only Hindus.
“Today, everyone knows that BJP takes people of every community together. Our schemes reach out to each and every segment of the society from every caste and religion,” he said.
