Asserting that people are right in coming out and objecting to the controversial RP 2021, Konkani writer and Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) leader Adv Uday Bhembre on Sunday attributed the growing unrest among people to the crisis in governance and democracy prevailing in the state and termed the coalition government as nothing but a marriage of convenience between parties holding different views and ideologies.
He said the people of Goa are right in expressing their objection to the RP-21 because of the host of discrepancies. “Not only the regional plan, people of Goa are getting worried, agitated and frustrated day by day as evident by the spate of agitations witnessed across the state,” Bhenbre told The Goan on Sunday.
“Political parties with diverse views and ideologies have come together to form a government without a mandate. They had disclosed plans to work as per a common minimum programme but the reality is that no one has adhered to it. It is just a marriage of convenience. I can say that people of Goa have not accepted the
present government in Goa,” he added.
Saying that Goa is facing a crisis in democracy, Bhembre said that it was wrong on the part of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to go to the USA without delegating powers to any person who he felt was capable. And, he blamed all the coalition partners for the current situation in Goa. “The CM is holding as many as 20 portfolios, including important ones such as Home, Finance. A CM just cannot go abroad for days and weeks together without delegating powers,” he added.
“The new academic year will start in a month from now, but more than 38 applications made to the government to open new schools in different languages are still pending. The government has also been caught napping on the question of making payments to its employees, in some cases, including doctors,” he added.
The Konkani writer recently raised concern at a talk organised by Probus Club of Margao when he said that Goa is doomed to be a failed state. He said the vision of Goans during the Opinion Poll movement and Konkani agitation to make the State a model is fast waning. “Politicians today look after their own interests. For some politicians, politics has become an investment. It is no more of a platform to serve the society,” he rued.
Digambar shows media his agricultural property in Agonda
MARGAO: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Sunday descended on his agricultural land admeasuring 2,275 square meters at Agonda-Canacona along with the media to prove that the land is not a beach facing property, but a fruit-bearing land purchased by him around a decade ago.
The former Minster took a group of scribes to his property at Agonda, which had come under the scanner of the Goencho which made a claim at the historic Lohia Maidan that Kamat has benefitted from the RP 21. “I have brought the media people to see for themselves that the property in question is agricultural. There are so many fruit-bearing trees in this property. And, it is neither sea facing or a prime land, but an agricultural property, which does not even have a proper road access,” Kamat said.
He said the objective behind purchasing the agricultural property around a decade ago was to retain it for agricultural purpose. “I had purchased the property from a relative with the avowed objective of retaining the zone as agriculture,” he said, adding that he has no plan even in the future to convert the zone to settlement.
Kamat, however, said he has no plan to institute defamation proceedings against the organization, saying he does not want to waste his time and energy on such proceedings since his objective of getting the media was to only show the ground reality.
