The notorious Mota Bhai gang claimed to have stolen two ATMs at Usgao and Agarwada-Pernem, but police teams from Ponda and Pernem reacted differently to the arrest of one member of the gang.
While a Pernem police team was already in Delhi four days ago and along with the South Delhi Police arrested a second gang member on Tuesday, the Ponda police was yet to even leave for Delhi and take custody of the accused.
Pernem Police along with the South Delhi Police arrested Vinod alias Mota Bhai and the police were in the process of completing the formalities to bring the accused to Goa.
According to Pernem PSI Gaonkar, a team of Pernem Police went to Delhi four days back to nab the accused.
The South Delhi Police had arrested the accused Suhag alias Rustom on Saturday in connection with ATM thefts in Usgao and Agarwaddo.
South Delhi DCP Ishwar Singh has stated that the accused, Suhag alias Rustom, is a gangster from the notorious Mota Bhai gang, who hails from Bangladesh, but residing at Ghaziabad.
Later, Pernem Police traced the other accused Mota Bhai and soon arrested him with the help of South Delhi Police in the wee hours of Tuesday.
"Accused Suhag alias Rustom has been remanded to police custody in Delhi, as it is difficult to bring him to Goa," said Gaonkar. Pernem Police will bring the accused, Mota Bhai to Goa on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the Ponda police was planning to go to Delhi to take custody of the accused.
Speaking to The Goan, South Goa Superintendent of Police Arvind Gawas said their counterparts in Delhi were contacted and the accused would be brought to Goa.
"We have contacted the Delhi Police in this regard. We will bring them to Goa," said SP Gawas.
"The accused arrested in Delhi has confessed to the crime. Presently, the Delhi Police are interrogating the accused and once they finish with it, our team will go to Delhi and take custody of the accused," informed SP Gawas. According to SP Gawas, a Ponda police team would leave for Delhi once the interrogation by Delhi Police is completed.
Burglars stole an ATM in Usgao on August 14, containing cash of Rs 3.9 lakh and later stole an ATM at Agarwada-Pernem on September 9, containing cash of Rs 18.3 lakh.
