The Pernem Truck Owners' Association (PTOA) on Monday requested Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar to ensure that their trucks are hired for projects in Pernem taluka.

At a meeting with Ajgaonkar, the members said the PTOA had been formed to promote their business and livelihood regarding ongoing mega projects in the taluka, including the Mopa airport, Patradevi-Colvale 4-lane highway and the sports complex.

PTOA President Milind Shetye said there were over 100 trucks in Pernem but very few have been getting business.

“The companies building the Mopa airport should hire trucks from us and support us in our livelihood," he said.

He also drew Ajgaonkar's attention to the ban on sand extraction activity in Pernem and said illegal transportation of sand had continued by trucks from Maharashtra.

Ajgaonkar extended his support to the truck owners and also assured to work out a solution to their issues.

PTOA Vice President Rangath Shetye and other committee members were also present during the meet.
