A demonstration of a petrol version of a GPS guided-paddy transplanter was carried out in the fields of Raia on Monday, with service providers saying the machine may suit Goa’s marshy soil conditions.
As the petrol version of the transplanter transplanted paddy in the fields at Raia on Monday, service providers including Paddy Man Fr George Quadros and Valentino said the petrol version of the transplanter will suit the local soil conditions. “There are many paddy transplanters, but I feel the petrol version is required for Goa because of the soil conditions, which cannot bear the weight of diesel machines,” Fr George said.
He added: “I think the petrol version is good for Goa as it promises to do a better job and finish. Price-wise, there’s not much difference between the diesel and petrol versions. But, I feel the petrol version is absolutely suitable for Goa.”
Another service provider Valentino echoed similar sentiments that the petrol version of the paddy transplanter can help the farmers. “The petrol version is lighter in weight compared to the diesel transplanter. Besides, the petrol version is GPS guided and can be manned by a single person,” Valentino said.
He added: “Our Goan soil is marshy in nature. The heavy transplanters get stuck up in the soil affecting the transplanting operations. In this situation, the petrol version of the transplanter can offer solution to the Goa farmers.”
Farmer from Curtorim J Santan Rodrigues has hoped the petrol version of the Transplanter will offer solutions to the farmers cultivating paddy in marsh soil.
