Pick-pocketers made hay on Colva beach on the eve of New Year, with reports of missing valuables coming to light on Tuesday evening.
At least, five cases of bag snatching and thefts were reported at the beach on Tuesday evening as thousands of visitors descended on the beach to watch the sun set on the last day of the year.
A native of Punjab, Manoj Kumar Singh told The Goan on the beach that his wife lost her purse containing valuables, including a gold chain, gold earrings, a mobile phone, cash of Rs 6000, besides other documents, including her ATM card.
The incident is believed to have taken place when the family had come on the beach on Tuesday evening to usher in the New Year.
Similar cases came to light on Colva beach and though the Colva police claimed that no formal complaints have been received, they are in the process of verifying the reports. In fact, police maintained that security will be beefed up further in the night as they anticipated thousands of visitors, including local populace to descend on the beach to usher in the New Year.
