PORVORIM
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Saturday made operational the Phase 1 of Serula Vaikunthdham crematorium at Britona.
Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Salvador do Mundo Sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar, ZP member Gupesh Naik, President of Serula Vaikunthdham crematorium committee Ravi Naik and panch members were present on this occasion.
Speaking on this occasion, Khaunte said facilities at the Britona crematorium were not up to the mark and hence, some people were forced to go to the crematorium at St Inez in Panaji to perform the final rites of their departed near and dear ones.
“Hence, work to renovate the Britona crematorium was taken up by the PWD for Rs 1.49 crore. Renovation work had begun in January 2019 and was to be completed by March this year.”
“There has been a delay in completing the work due to some political reasons and also Covid. I have spoken to PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and requested him to settle the contractor’s payment at the earliest, so that remaining work on the crematorium can also be completed soon,” said Khaunte.
The Porvorim MLA said maintenance of the Britona crematorium will be looked after by the Serula Vaikunthdham crematorium committee.
“All crematoriums and cemeteries in the jurisdiction of Penha de Franca, Socorro and Salvador do Mundo have been renovated. I have kept a hearse van and an ambulance at the disposal of residents of Porvorim constituency,” said Khaunte.
Affirming his commitment towards inclusive development of the constituency, Khaunte said he would endeavour to make Porvorim an ideal constituency.
