Devotees from across the State immersed idols of Lord Ganesha to mark the culmination of one and half-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Hundreds of devotees marched towards immersion points following the Ganesha idols on decorated vehicles for the final procession, which marks the conclusion of the one and half-day festival.
Special arrangements were made by the authorities in Panaji with ferry boats on the bank of the rivers Mandovi to perform rituals with convenience. Corporation of the City of Panaji has cleaned and illuminated the popular immersion points. The CCP has provided special pots ‘Nirmalya Kalash’ to collect flowers (Nirmalya) which were offered to the Ganesh Idol. Traffic Police, Fire Service personnel, emergency service personnel were present at many locations. At some immersion points there were life guards deployed to avoid untoward incidents.
In Panaji people took out procession with idols to the immersion points. Some idols were made of plastic of Paris, which is hazardous for the aquatic ecosystem and is a major cause of water pollution. Some people use eco-friendly idols to save the environment. In Panaji city people immersed idols in Mandovi River and Miramar sea. The revellers were in full vigorous beside rain outpour which was consistently dropping in phases.
In some places in Goa like Adpai, Ponda the idols are immersed using special arrangements made using small boats. As there less availability of the fire-crackers this year the use of fire-crackers was reduced during the festival this year.
