PHC officials inspect two sites at Merces

OLD GOA rrSources informed that the inspections were necessitated after a complaint was first received from members of Merces Manch over release of sewage water into the paddy fields by owners of residential projects, where several rooms have been let without basic sanitation facilities. rPeeved over the complaint, a counter complaint was lodged against a member of the Manch who runs a poultry farm adjacent to the rented premises, where water stagnation has become a perfect ground for breeding of mosquitoes. rThe inspection was done by health officer Dr Kedar Raikar along with his team and was accompanied by Merces Panchayat Secretary Bheldas Karapurkar. rWhen contacted, Dr Raikar refused to comment on the inspections. A member of the Manch, Jose Carmin Joao, though, informed that around hundred workers have been housed in the rented premises without providing basic sanitation facilities and hence they have lodged the complaint. “The sewage water is directly released into the paddy fields,” he added. rWhen questioned about the cross complaint lodged against one of the Manch members, Joao blamed rthe opposing party for the water stagnation at the poultry farm. r“There used to be a cross drainage which has been blocked by the opposing party resulting in rainwater getting stagnant,” he claimed while adding that the poultry farm owner will now complain over the blocking of the cross drainage to relevant authorities.
