India suffered their first defeat in the Champions Trophy to Belgium in London on Monday. The men in blue fought hard but eventually went down to their opponents 2-1.
Alexander Hendrickx had put Belgium in the lead in the 25th minute after converting a penalty corner. Moments later, the ball came off Belgium goalkeeper to Devinder Walmiki, who smashed the ball into the goal to make the score 1-1.
In the 44th minute, Jerome Truyens managed to strike the ball past Sreejesh Ravindran, which turned out to be the winner of the match.
The Indians were finding ways to get near Belgium’s goal but couldn’t find a way to score more goals. And Belgium also maintained pressure on India by getting several penalty corners.
The positive from this match for India has to be goalkeeper Sreejesh Ravindran’s performance. The goalkeeper carried out some spectacular saves which helped India end the game on a respectable score.
