Refuting allegations by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida that he had signed a notification to rename Vasco-da-Gama as Sambhaji, former revenue minister Jose Philip D’Souza accused Almeida of misguiding the media and public.
“I reside in Vasco and I also have a strong sentiment to the name, Vasco-Da-Gama. If I had signed the notification, then I would have changed the name of the city in 2011 itself,” D’Souza told The Goan.
“I urge Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the facts before the citizens of Vasco so that every thing is made clear how Sambhaji was added in new ration and National Food Security Act cards, which were distributed to the poor people on Friday by Power Minister Milind Naik,” added D’Souza.
“I have never signed any file or any notification. By speaking to the media, Almeida is trying to play with sentiments and fool the citizens of Vasco,” said D’Souza.
