In a significant disclosure, the terror suspect Mohammad Hussain Qureshi, who was arrested while clicking photos at the prohibited area in Belagavi airport, claimed that he was present at the Church Street in Bangalore when bomb blasts took place last December.
It is not, however, clear whether Qureshi had any connection with terrorists, who triggered the bombs at the Church Street.
According to reliable sources, the state police managed to prevent some possible disasters that could have been carried out at many important installations including airports and railway stations in many parts of Karnataka and neighbouring states by arresting Qureshi and his associates in Kalburgi.
Investigating officials suspect that Qureshi may reveal more information on terror outfits and their operators in Karnataka, who are planning to carry out blasts in the coming days.
Through his telephone call records, the police were able to confirm that Qureshi was present at Church Street during the blasts.
During the same time, Qureshi had received several calls from foreign countries before the bomb blasts took place at Church Street.
In the few weeks after the blasts, Qureshi toured 14 states in the country including Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, besides several districts of Karnataka.
On seizure of his phones and laptop, the investigators discovered that he had phone numbers of some notorious people and also VIPs from different states, sources said adding that so far it was not clear whether he had any links with locals in Karnataka.
In the last few days before his arrest, Qureshi visited several spots in Belagavi, including Visveswaraya Technological University, and posh hotels to take photos.
According to sources, Qureshi also has a large number of photos taken in Bangalore city which included photos of BMTC, airport and several noted malls, including the Mantri mall.
Though Police Commissioner S Ravi has preferred to maintain silence, the investigators are hopeful of getting more information from Qureshi about the plans of terror outfits.
