The four-member team of Goa Police, investigating the mysterious murder of Sonali Phogat in Haryana, faced an embarrassing situation on Thursday morning when they found her farmhouse locked. The deceased's brother and brother-in-law, who had the keys, then accompanied the investigation team who are being assisted by the Hisar police to probe the case.
The family members have already expressed their utter disappointment in the manner in which the Goa Police handled the case right from the beginning. They had earlier alleged that the police were reluctant to seek their presence for the probe and apprehended it could be an attempt of cover-up.
The grieving family is supported by villagers who also demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The villagers reportedly voiced their demand while the Goa Police team were conducting their field investigation. They have threatened to agitate if the government failed them.
On Friday, the Goa police team is expected to leave for Gurugram where Phogat and Sudhir Sangwan lived in a rental apartment since past three months.
Meanwhile, the investigation has further revealed that Phogat's personal assistant has allegedly prepared documents to take her Hisar farmhouse on lease for merely Rs 5000 per month.
The market rate of the 6-acre land on which the farmhouse is situated is worth more than Rs 6 crore per acre. While the farmhouse was constructed on 3 acres of land, a warehouse existed on the remaining part.
The documents show that Sangwan sought an appointment in the Sub Registrar's office for registering the lease and secured an appointment slip but Phogat didn't reach out to complete the legal procedure indicating her consent was not taken. The family is oblivious about the development.
In what could question Goa Police's progress of the investigation into the drug menace in Goa and Phogat's murder, the Hyderabad police have accused their counterparts of not cooperating in the Preetesh Borkar's arrest in a drugs case.
"Our team went to Goa and nabbed the accused but could not find Adwin," CV Anand, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner is quoted as saying by a national agency.
