The name of the deceased has been provided as Nyx Erline Fernandes, who is an SSC student at a school in Panaji and has an elder sister.
Sources informed that over 100 Goan picnickers were enjoying at the waterfall when the boy went under water and disappeared, but none could save him.
“As a hue and cry was raised after realising that Nyx disappeared in the water, one of the picnickers ran and called the locals. Two locals rushed to the spot. Nyx was pulled out, but he was lifeless,” informed a resident from Loliem, whose sibling was also part of the group on the outing.
Dennis Fernandes, a social worker from Loliem who quickly drove to Nagarmadi waterfall on learning of the incident, said, “Though the waterfall enchanting, it is also very dangerous. Many Goans are so enchanted by its beauty that they fail to see the danger. This waterfall is not safe for picnickers.”
