Pilerne becomes State’s first Swayampurna village: CM

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday commended Saligao MLA Kedar Naik for his developmental initiatives and efforts in leading Pilerne to become the first Swayampurna village in the State.  

The chief minister was addressing the BJP Saligao Karyakarta Melava at Alto-Pilerne in the presence of BJP State President Damodar (Damu) Naik, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik, BJP North Goa President Dayanand Karbotkar, Saligao BJP Block President Gaurish Madkaikar and karyakartas.  

Sawant also commended all BJP karyakartas of Saligao constituency for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in taking initiatives of the Central and State governments to the grassroots. “Your efforts across key sectors such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, industrial development, and social welfare are truly commendable,” the chief minister said.  

When contacted, Pilerne-Marra Deputy Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar explained the various initiatives that had led Pilerne to become the first Swayampurna village in the State.  

“In response the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant regarding Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna Goa, the Pilerne-Marra Panchayat has starting planting mango, jackfruit, cashew and banana and kokum trees in the area of 25,000 sq mtrs of land at Savlem and Alto-Porvorim. The panchayat proposes to undertake further plantation in another 25,000 sq meters of land,” said Govekar.  

“Similarly, the panchayat has been growing local vegetables and marigold flowers. There are about 10 temples in the jurisdiction of the Pilerne-Marra Panchayat. All vegetables and marigold flowers grown in the village are being supplied to these temples during festivals.”  

“Besides, there is a Goshala maintained by the Panchayat and all stray cattle are housed in this Goshala.”  

Govekar said the panchayat has been receiving good support from Saligao MLA Kedar Naik in this regard.  

“The chief minister appreciated these activities undertaken by the panchayat and assured to pay a visit to our plantation and Goshala during his next visit to Pilerne,” said Govekar.
