PORVORIM
In a bid to offer better internet facilities for online classes, the Pilerne-Marra panchayat on Thursday inaugurated a novel facility to provide free internet WiFi hotpots for students at 10 different locations in the village.
The WiFi hotspots were inaugurated by Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar in the presence of Panch Members Ajay (Amarnath) Govekar, Sonal Malvankar, Karan Govenkar, Brenda Vaz, Pramila Akshay Govekar and Roshna Rane, teacher Urmila Joshi, VDC Chairman Jaiwant Rane, Bio Diversity Chairman Sayaji Rane and a group of locals.
Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar said that these WiFi spots will be managed and financed by the Pilerne-Marra Panchayat.
The free WiFi hotpots have been set up at Sadguru Mutt Shed (Maina), St Baptist Church Hall (Navetim), Ganesh Visarjan Mandap (Navetim), Shree Krishna Devasthan Office Room (Mansher), Vithal Rakhumai Devasthan Area (Saulem), St Anne Chapel (Marra), Shantadurga Devasthan Shed (Moicawaddo), Mae Deus Chapel Area (Moicawaddo), Sai Baba Mandir Shed (Volvaddo) and the Pilerne-Marra Panchayat library.
The Pilerne sarpanch explained that this free internet WiFi hotpot facility was set up as students in interior areas of the village suffered from poor internet coverage and struggled to pursue online classes.
Former sarpanch and sitting panch Ajay Govekar said the panchayat would also provide chairs at the locations for students to sit and attend to their online classes and appealed to students to avail this facility closest to their homes.
