Two councillors at Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) have urged authorities at Sanguem Primary Health Centre to improve cleanliness at the swab collection centre.
Councillors Messiah da Costa and Sangameshwar Naik said the place where the swab collection takes place is surrounded by overgrown bushes.
“Besides, people coming for antigen tests have to walk through the water-logged ground to proceed to the testing centre,” said Da Costa.
“The building where the testing centre is located is dilapidated and is leaking at the entrance, where the people are made to stand. Besides, concrete plaster is found damaged at many places and can fall on people.”
Naik added that overgrown bushes at the site could lead to the presence of reptiles in the SHC premises.
“Moreover, people going for an antigen test at Sanguem PHC have to literally stand on a stone for the swab collection. This is highly unacceptable as there is no space for people to stand comfortably with both their legs at the time of swab collection,” claimed Naik.
Da Costa claimed that the PHC had been contacting the Sanguem Municipal Council to send its workers to get the surroundings cleaned and alleged that authorities had stopped this practise some time ago.
“We are unaware why this practice has been stopped, but I will send municipal workers with a weed cutting machine to the Sanguem PHC to get the surroundings cleaned,” said Da Costa.
