CORTALIM rrDuring the election proceedings, only two nominations for the post of sarpanch and deputy were received and the presiding officer declared both of them elected unopposed. Interestingly, both Pillai and Dessai have been elected from the wards having a substantial migrant population. rLater speaking to the media, Pillai sought the cooperation of all the villagers for the smooth running of the panchayat body. r“If we are wrong, you have to let us know and we will definately adopt corrective measures,” Pillai said, adding that he would strive a make a corrupt-free administration. rThe sarpanch also emphasised on tacking the sanitation problem at Zuari Nagar and also rooted for a full-fledged police station at Zuari Nagar to address the rise in anti-social activities. A similar demand has also been made by Chicalim deputy sarpanch for a full-fledged police station at Dabolim, which is also a migrant dominated area. rTo a question on tackling rampant illegal constructions particularly at Zuari Nagar, Pillai said that he would address these and other issues at a press conference later. Thereafter, the ruling body met Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha at her office. rEarlier, Pillai told the media that his group owes allegiance to Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha and to the BJP. rAs reported, seven panchas belong to the BJP, while four are from the opposition group.
Pillai elected sarpanch of Sancoale panchayat
As expected, Girish Pillai was elected sarpanch of Sancoale Panchayat, while Nandina Desai was elected his deputy unanimously.
