Girish Pillai returned as sarpanch of Sancoale for the second time in the present tenure of the panchayat, when he was elected unopposed on Tuesday.

Nine panchayat members were present while ousted sarpanch Ramakant Borker and his wife and fellow panch Sunita Borkar were absent at a special meeting presided over by Elvis Figueiredo.

Pillai had also been previous elected unopposed and had served as sarpanch during the first three years of the panchayat’s tenure.

Later speaking to reporters, Pillai said the unity of panch members would enable the panchayat carry out works pending across many wards in the village.

“There has been no development in Zuarinagar and we have a lot of poor people residing there and facing hardships. They cannot be denied facilities, amenities and development," said Pillai.

Pillai said some people had claimed on social media that the newly constructed MRF facility was illegal and did not have valid permission.

"This is a facility to tackle garbage issue and has been taken up at taxpayers cost using panchayat funds. We will take steps to legalise this facility and take all permissions that may be required for this facility," said Pillai.

Dy Sarpanch Succorina Vales praised Pillai for helping people, especially the poor, at his own cost.

“We will soon lay the foundation stone for the new Panchayat Ghar and carry out development across all wards," said Vales.

Sancoale ZP Member Anita Thorat said Pillai had taken a lot of works as sarpanch during his earlier tenure, by keeping politics aside.
