Several households in Azossim went without water supply for over four days as the main pipeline supplying water to the area was damaged.
Locals informed that they were trying to find the reason for lack of water supply and that the leakage was detected only on Monday, after which the PWD officials were notified, and work on repairing the same started.
Till late night, AE Sunil, PWD supervisor Sandesh Kubal along with Azossim-Mandur sarpanch Prashant Naik were at the site to fix the leakage which was however hampered due to heavy downpour.
Speaking to The Goan, Naik informed that he came to know that the area was not getting water supply only after the locals informed.
"And this is an AC 100 pipeline which is very old and needs to be replaced. Time and again, there are leakages developing and water supply is affected," Naik stated, while adding that there is urgent need to replace the pipeline.
When questioned, Naik said the pipeline is 600 metres long and is located mostly in a residential area which makes repairs difficult.
Naik informed that work would continue till the damaged pipeline is repaired.
Naik has further urged authorities to look into the issue and approve the file for replacing the old water pipeline.
