VALPOI
Concerns have been raised over the plastic waste strewn in Valpoi town after 40 kg of plastic was removed from the abdomen of one stray cattle on Tuesday.
The Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) had launched a plastic eradication campaign since the last two years, but efforts appear to have been met with little success as plastic waste continues to be strewn all over the town.
What has worried animal lovers is the large quantities of plastic waste ingested by stray cattle in Valpoi town.
According to Hanumant Parab, president of the Goshala in Nanus-Valpoi, two stray cattle were found ill and were taken to the Goshala.
“A veterinary officer Raghunath Dhuri operated on one stray cattle on Tuesday and removed 40 kg of plastic waste from her stomach. The other stray cattle will also receive treatment shortly.”
“In the recent past plastic waste has also been removed from other stray cattle moving around in the town. This proves that plastic is still being widely used in Valpoi and the municipal council should take the matter seriously, so that action can be initiated against those who do not follow the plastic-free campaign,” said Parab.
“It is important that citizens cooperate with the municipal council in ensuring a plastic-free Valpoi town,” he added.
