MARGAO
Shedding light on Digambar Kamat’s return to the BJP fold after his 17-year-old long association with the Congress, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that Kamat was asked by both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah when he would return to the party fold.
“Both these top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Modi had asked Kamat when he is returning to the BJP fold. I am happy that both Modi and Amit Shah welcomed Kamat back to the party. Though the Margao MLA was in the Congress, he saw the way the country and the State were progressing and moving forward before he finally decided to quit the Congress and embrace the BJP,” the Chief Minister said speaking at the 70th birthday celebrations of the Margao MLA here on Friday.
Sawant added: “When Kamat first spoke to me that a decision has been taken at the centre that he should return to the party, he said he had decided to return to the party without any conditions, only for the development of Margao."
The Chief Minister said his government sought inputs from Kamat on important issues given the Margao MLA’s rich experience as a legislator, saying that the Margao MLA will continue to partake in the development of Goa and the country.
