MARGAO

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise to work out a solution to Goa’s mining crisis brought smiles on the faces of BJP leaders, many of whom commented that the party and the Centre are indeed working out a solution to the issue.

South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, who represents the Curchorem constituency, the home of thousands of mining dependents, expressed satisfaction over Prime Minister’s assurance, saying this only goes to show the Centre is seized of the matter at the highest level.

“I am happy that the Prime Minister touched upon the mining issue even without a question being posed to him. Our workers used to say that the Prime Minister has not given time to address the mining issue, but the fact that he suo moto addressed the issue shows that he is aware of the matter”, Cabral said.

He further pointed out that the Prime Minister’s promise has offered a big hope for the mining dependents who have been struggling with their livelihood since the Supreme Court judgement banned all mining operations. “Within the next few days, we may expect some positive results,” he said. “Our party workers are happy over the Prime Minister’s promise. I am confident Prime Minister will work out a solution in the coming days,” Cabral added.

South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar exuded confidence that the Centre will work out a solution to the mining issue by addressing the legal issues post Supreme Court judgement. “BJP Goa leaders have been following up the mining issue with the Centre since March 2017 and this was evident by the PM’s statement.”
