CANACONA
Responding to complaints from farmers and residents, Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal and other officials inspected the Kolyabhand in Poinguinim and explored measures to stop saline water from entering the paddy fields and household wells.
Farmers and residents had been complaining that the high tide had brought in saline water through the unprotected bandh which entered the paddy fields, destroying the cultivated crops and spoiling household wells.
Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes later directed officials concerned to inspect the area and undertake measures to stop the entry of saline water.
On Friday, Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal, Zonal Agricultural Officer (ZAO) Kirtiraj Naik Gaonkar, Circle Inspector Rohidas Gaonkar and Poinguinim Talathi Dipak Velip visited the Kolyabandh.
The team inspected the saline water which was entering into a nearby paddy field.
Social worker Sunil Painginkar who also accompanied the team, said, “With the help of the Mamlatdar’s office and ZAO, we are looking forward to solving this problem, which is also being taken up by MLA Isidore Fernandes.”
“Many positive suggestions were put forth during the discussion with local farmers and we expect to resolve the issue soon.”
