BELAGAVI
Belagavi police on Tuesday received the autopsy report of the deceased former Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar, but the cause of death has been kept pending for the chemical analysis report and histopathology reports.
Police said the further course of action against the arrested suspect would depend on the outcome of these reports.
“We cannot ascertain the actual cause of death as the chemical analysis report is awaited. We will have to wait for some time until this report and the final opinion of the doctors are obtained to ascertain the cause of death,” Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang told The Goan.
The report received on Tuesday says that there were no demonstrable external injuries noted anywhere on the body, whereas the brain and spinal cord were congested and oedematous (abnormally swollen due to excess fluid).
“While we have received the primary post-mortem report, the viscera and chemical analysis reports will take at least a fortnight, only after which the actual cause of death could be ascertained. Further legal processes would commence only after that,” said Circle Police Inspector M V Dhamannavar of the Market Police Station.
Mamledar had collapsed and died shortly after being assaulted by a cab driver following an altercation outside the Srinivas Residency Hotel, where Mamledar was staying, at Khade Bazaar in Belagavi on Saturday noon. The body was later brought to Goa on Saturday night, and the final rites took place on Sunday morning.
The accused cab driver, Amirsuhil Shakilsab Sanadi (26), has been arrested and is presently in judicial custody.
