The Goa police have busted a gang of thievesfrom Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, who were involved in the recent thefts of copperwires from BSNL pillars across the South Goa district.
Superintendent of Police, South, Akshat Aayush,told the media on Monday that three persons have been arrested in the case. Hesaid property consisting of 165.190 kilograms of copper wire/metal material hadbeen recovered and seized by the police.
The South Goa police had registered as many as10 FIRs after senior BSNL officials lodged complaints following the thefts ofthe pillars and other materials, disrupting telephone services.
After the trio were nabbed at Satara,Maharashtra, the accused persons admitted and confessed that they, along withother co-accused persons, had committed thefts of copper wires from TACblocks/BSNL pillars at various places such as Fatorda Junction, Seraulim,Colva, Verna, Zoriwada, Datta Mandir, Davarlim near Rice Bowl Restaurant atSeraulim, near Greenhouse Junction, Colva, Verna and Vasco.
The accused had committed thefts of copperwires from TAC blocks/BSNL pillars at various places such as Fatorda Junction,Seraulim, Colva, Verna, Zoriwada, Datta Mandir, Davarlim near Rice BowlRestaurant at Seraulim, near Greenhouse Junction, Colva, Verna and Vasco.
The main FIR was registered at the Fatordapolice station after BSNL Sub-divisional Engineer, Margao, Sneha Gaonkar,stated that unknown accused persons had broken open the locks of the BSNLpillar cabinets and stolen TAG blocks and copper wires.
