Mapusa Police arrested nine persons while conducting a raid in a house and busting an online gambling racket at Xelpem in Mapusa.
Police seized five mobile phones and five laptops all worth Rs 3.5 lakh from the accused.
According to Mapsua SDPO Jivba Dalvi, on receiving specific information a team of Mapusa Police Station headed by Mapusa PI Shitakant Nayak conducted a raid in a house belonging to a local Peter Misquita at Xelpem, Duler, Mapusa and apprehended the accused who were carrying on online gambling activities by using mobile phones and laptops.
The following nine accused were arrested: Pankaj Kumar (22), Anshgiri Pramodgiri Goswami (19), Rahul Jagatram Thakur (23), Pratik Suresh Baghel (22), Mohammad Ahamd Haque (27), Prakash Sundarlal Mirjha (30), David Mohanlal Sahu (24) all from Chhattisgarh and Raja Manoj Kumar Bharma (19) of Jharkhand and Binkesh Sitaram Bhimte (30) of Madhya Pradesh.
A case was registered against the accused under Section 3, 4 of Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling (GDDPG) Act, 1976.
Dalvi informed that legal action will be taken against the owner of the house for violating the rules and regulations in force.
Further investigation is in progress under supervision of Mapusa PI Shitakant Nayak.
