Police cracked down against two establishments playing loud music and confiscated their music system in Anjuna.
Anjuna police has filed chargesheet against the owners and managers of Café La Musica at Vagator and XOXO Bar and Restaurant in Anjuna for flouting the noise pollution norms.
According to police, Gaurish Naik, talathi of Anjuna panchayat, had lodged a complaint against Café La Musica on January 12 for playing music beyond the permissible limits thereby causing nuisance to the public.
“We have recorded the statements of officials of Goa State Pollution Control Board and other witnesses. Besides, the musical equipment used in commission of crime was also seized,” said Jivba Dalvi, DySP Mapusa.
Dalvi informed that the chargesheet has been submitted before the JMFC, Mapusa against accused Vijay Arora, owner and Sudipta Ghosh of Cafe La Musica under Section 15 of the Environment (Protection Act) and Section 57 of Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control Rule) 2000.
In the second case, LPSI Sneha Sawal attached to Anjuna Police Station conducted a raid at XOXO Bar and Restaurant on January 13 for playing music beyond the permissible limits thereby causing annoyance to public.
Further, the accused Deepansh Subhash Bajaj and Mohak Subhash Bajaj both owners and Suresh Ramola the manager of XOXO Bar and Restaurant, were chargesheeted under relevant sections.
The locals along the coast of Anjuna have repeatedly complained against loud music which went on well into the night disturbing their sleep and peace in the village.
The High Court which is monitoring the sound pollution case had come down against the authorities and directed the police to take action against the offenders.
“We are keeping a close watch and monitoring the situation vis-Ã -vis noise pollution along the coastal belt. Strict action will be taken against those who flout the noise pollution norms,” Dalvi said.
