MARGAO
Space constraint has come to haunt the Goa police in its plan to shift the women’s police station to the Old Collectorate and to set up the proposed Navelim police station at the Navelim Panchayat ghar. The police are apparently on the look out for spacious premises to house the two police stations.
The Goa police are scouting for alternate land to house the proposed Navelim police station after the Navelim panchayat body rejected the proposal to house the new police station in the panchayat ghar.
Even as the Navelim panchayat is bracing up to dash off a letter to the home department expressing its objection to the setting up of the proposed police station, district police chief, SP Arvind Gawas, told The Goan that if the panchayat body is unwilling to part with a portion of the panchayat ghar for the proposed police station, the police will look out for alternate land.
When his attention was drawn to the statement made by the panchayat deputy Sarpanch Paulo Pereira that the police can set up the police station at Mandopa or at Caeiro Nagar in the gifted property, SP Gawas said the police would have a look at the two properties.
Deputy Sarpanch Paulo told The Goan that the proposal to house the proposed Navelim police station in the panchayat ghar did not found favour with the members at the meeting of the panchayat body held earlier this week.
