Mapusa Police on Friday arrested one more person for forming an unlawful assembly and threatening the shop owner who was suspected to be a traffic sentinel in Mapusa.

The accused, Pravin Asolkar of Alto-Duler, Mapusa, was arrested in the morning and immediately sent to police lockup. This is the second arrest in the case after Mapusa Police swung into action and arrested one, Santosh Fulari of Khorlim on Wednesday when the incident took place.

Fulari had garlanded the owner of the shop, Metro Parts Corner, suspecting him to be a sentinel and clicking photos of unsuspecting helmet-less riders. A video showing the accused blaming the shop owner and garlanding him for clicking photos went viral on Thursday.

On Friday, the shop owner, Shaikh Jikaria, also released a video stating that he was not a traffic sentinel and that he will vigorously pursue the police complaint he made against those who abused him and made a video of the event.

“Just as you have made the earlier video viral, I request each one of you to make this video of mine also viral,” Jikaria appealed in the video.

The accused Pravin Asokar was arrested under Section 146, 147 and 506. Mapusa PI, Tushar Lotlikar said that strict action will be taken on each and every person who was involved in the incident. “All those who were involved in the incident will be booked and strict action will be taken against them,” PI Lotlikar said.

Meanwhile, a Mapusa court late Friday evening released the accused, Pravin Asolkar on bail on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and under stiff conditions. The court said the bail will be cancelled if the applicant repeats such act of threatening or interfering with any person in respect to maintaining traffic discipline.

The court also said that the applicant shall not interfere with the complainant or any other person who takes part in social work in bringing discipline among motorists.
