BICHOLIM
Technology and quick action enabled the arrest of Bhagwan Das alias Abdul at Nagpur and the rescue of the one-and-half year old boy who was abducted from a shop at Bicholim market on Sunday evening.
With the help of CCTV footage and mobile signals, Bicholim police located the accused in Nagpur, where he had fled after allegedly abducting the toddler.
According to Bicholim police, the accused, Bhagwan Das, who was temporarily residing at Pilgao-Bicholim had committed the offence after visiting a pan masala shop at Bicholim market.
Das had visited the shop for pan masala and requested the grandfather to hand the toddler over to him as he wanted to buy the child some sweets.
The grandfather allowed the toddler to accompany the man, but when an hour passed and there was no sign of his grandchild and the man, the grandfather suspected something fishy and began a search.
When efforts to locate the grandchild failed, the grandfather lodged a police complaint late Sunday night.
Acting on the complaint, the Bicholim police swung into action and received a clue from the Tivim railway police station that the suspect may have fled along with the toddler via train.
CCTV footage confirmed that the accused along with the toddler were sighted at the railway station.
Bicholim police then alerted their counterparts in
Nagpur.
Police also managed to get hold of the mobile number used by the accused and tracked him on the basis of mobile tower coverage.
A Bicholim police team then went to Nagpur and with the assistance of Nagpur police, tracked the accused and rescued the toddler.
A police team along with the accused and toddler are expected to return to Bicholim by Wednesday evening.
DySP Gurudas Gawde commended the efforts of PSI Gaurish Parab for quick investigations which led to the rescue of the toddler.
Bicholim police arrested the accused under Section 363 of IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Sanjay Dalvi.
