Amidst the political mileu surrounding his physically crippling ailment, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday surprised all and sundry by taking the video-conferencing route to chair the Investment Promotion Board meet from the ICU bed at his private residence in Dona Paula.
The IPB meet held on Wednesday which was otherwise slated to be chaired by IT Minister Rohan Khaunte considered investment proposals worth around several hundred crores. Some projects were approved while others were deferred by the board, a top official who attended the meeting said.
The official however did not say whether Parrikar made any significant contribution to the discussions in the meeting or not but confirmed that the Chief Minister participated through video-conferencing.
Parrikar, who has been confined to his bed at his Dona Paula residence ever since he returned from Delhi last week, had earlier instructed Khaunte to chair the IPB deliberations at the meeting the two held in AIIMS.
Among several proposals on the IPB table, Wednesday’s meet was to consider one from a Bengaluru company to set up an ammunition manufacturing facility. The company, Precision Manufacturing Pvt Ltd, is seeking 8000 square metres of land anywhere in Goa for the project.
Another proposal deliberated by the Board was the one from India’s largest blue-chip IT company - Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) - to set up a GPS navigation assistance gadgets for Indian Defence. TCS wants to house the project entailing an investment of Rs 22-crore and with a potential of creating eight blue-collared jobs, at its existing facility in Karaswada.
Among a number of hospitality projects, the one
proposed by prominent Goan real estate company Models Construction Pvt Ltd, to set up a Rs 130-crores 4-Star Service Apartment Resort at Marra-Pilerne as also discussed.
The official declined to say which ones of the proposals discussed were granted in-principle approval or deferred, saying since the minutes were not signed by all those who attended the meeting the information was being kept under wraps.
