The  long-delayed work of renovation and improvement of the existing LT  distribution network in the Cuncolim Municipal area will finally kick-start with the Goa Forward leadership on Friday claiming that Party chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai’s intervention made the  government to clear the file and shortlist the contractor.

Yuri  Alemao told the media in the presence of Goa Forward vice-president  Durgadas Kamat, former MLA Joaquim Alemao, Cuncolim Municipal councillors  and citizens, that the erratic power supply and the power outages in  the Cuncolim Municipal area will soon be a thing of the past.

“We had called  on our party supremo Vijai Sardesai in August last and submitted a  memorandum to get the government clear the file for the renovation and  improvement in the LT distribution work, which was stuck up in the  Finance department. We are happy to announce the file has been finally  cleared with the government shortlisting the contractor to execute the  work,” Yuri said while thanking the TCP Minister, besides Chief Minister  Manohar Parrikar and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral for the same.

Saying  that the Goa Forward stands by the promises it makes to the people,  Yuri exuded confidence that the works amounting to Rs 8.08 crore, once  implemented will bring about a turn around

in the power situation in

Cuncolim.

In his address, GF vice-president Durgadas Kamat said that  Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has resolved the issue regarding Cuncolim  power infrastructure in coordination with the Chief Minister and the  TCP Minister.

When the media pointed out that the power scenario in  Cuncolim will improve if the government sets up a new feeder, Yuri said  the work of installing a new feeder worth around Rs 3 crore will be  taken up separately.

When questioned why the power infrastructure  issue was not resolved during his 10-year tenure as Cuncolim MLA,  Joaquim Alemao said he had proposed underground cabling in Cuncolim, but  before could not take to the logical conclusion after his defeat in the  2012 election. “The situation was not bad during my tenure. Even then I  had set in motion the process to take up underground cabling in

Cuncolim,” he added.

Who is Yuri to announce power project in Cuncolim, reacts Clafacio

MARGAO:  “Who is Yuri Alemao? Is he an MLA to announce the power project in the  Cuncolim Municipal area,” was how Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias reacted when the media contacted him for his comments on the Goa Forward’s media  briefing on the project.

Saying that Yuri and the Goa Forward cannot  claim credit for the project, Clafacio recalled that he had raised the  issue of strengthening power infrastructure both within the Assembly and  outside for months, forcing the government to tender the Rs 8.08 crore  project. “I had even joined the people of Cuncolim on the streets when  they had called for a protest over the power outages. Former MP late  Shantaram Naik and other leaders had also joined the agitation,” he  said.

While saying that he failed to understand how Yuri or the Goa  Forward can claim credit for the project, the MLA said former MLA  Joaquim Alemao should explain to Cuncolkars why he did not take up the  work during his 10-year stint as Cuncolim MLA.
