MARGAO
Dozens of policemen in riot gear descended on the Margao KTC bus stand on Tuesday evening before the coal revolt padayatra by Revolutionary Goans could kick start from the bus stand.
Two platoons of reserve police were requisitioned for duties at the KTC stand, besides men in uniform from Fatorda, Margao, Maina Curtoriim, Colva and Cuncolim, apparently to ensure the padayatra does not start from the bus stand without permission.
DySP Sahil Narangal, IPS, police officers, PI Kapil Nayak, PI Sachin Narvekar, PI Therron D’Costa, PI Shivram Vaingankar and PI Melson Colaco made their presence felt at the bus stand, taking position near the exit.
The force was withdrawn and the police officials left the venue moments after Sub-divisional Magistrate Margao, Jyoti Kumari, granted permission for the padayatra with conditions.
The SDM stated that the padayatra has to halt at 10 pm sharp and will commence only the next day at the designated time with proper permissions.
The SDM further said that no sound amplifying instruments including firecrackers will be used and that the padayatra will not stop along the route and will continuously proceed to the destination.
