Calangute Police arrested a 26-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh after allegedly recovering a country-made pistol (katta) and two live cartridges from his scooter during a late-night operation near the Helipad at Sinquerim in Candolim.
The accused was unable to produce any valid licence or documents authorising possession of the firearm and ammunition, police said.
Following the seizure, police registered an offence against the accused under the provisions of the Arms Act and took him into custody.
The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Mapusa later in the day. The court remanded him to four days of police custody to facilitate further investigation.
Police are investigating the source of the weapon and the purpose for which it was allegedly being carried.
