VALPOI
Tension moments were witnessed when Valpoi police stopped the Aam Admi Party’s (AAP) "Veez Andolan" public awareness meeting in Honda-Sattari and arrested AAP leader Sandesh Telekar on Friday night.
While Valpoi police claimed that the meeting had been illegally organised, AAP leaders and workers denounced the arrest of Telekar and accused the government of playing dirty politics after being afraid of AAP "Veez Andolan" meetings across the State.
According to reports, one such "Veez Andolan" public awareness meeting was convened at Honda.
But before the meeting could start, Valpoi police stopped the meeting and claimed that it was illegal. Police then detained AAP leader Sandesh Telekar and took him to the police station.
When contacted, Valpoi Police Inspector Mahesh Gadekar confirmed that Telekar had been arrested under Section 151 CrPC.
“The meeting was illegally conducted and Telekar was arrested as a preventive measure,” said PI Gadekar.
While declining to provide further details into the incident, PI Gadekar said procedures were underway.
Denouncing the arrest of Telekar, AAP youth leader Nikhil Haldankar accused the State government of dirty politics after being afraid of AAP "Veez Andolan" meetings across the State.
“The government is trying to suppress the voice of the AAP, but it will not succeed,” said Haldankar.
A number of AAP supporters gathered at the Valpoi police station to denounce the arrest of Telekar and demand his immediate release.
