The Opposition parties have slammed the State Government’s silence over the deafening rave parties scheduled in the coastal belt. The Opposition legislators were reacting to The Goan’s news published on Sunday, December 18, giving details of parties slated from the ongoing month till February 2023, in complete defiance of the law.
“The identity of Goa is completely destroyed by the BJP government in last 10 years. Government's obsession for event management and promoting commercial events has affected our local art, culture and traditions. Authorities harass our local traditional organisers but give full liberty to foreigners to have rave parties. There is no Governance in place,” Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao commented.
Several beachside parties have been announced along the beach belt, particularly Vagator, all of which will be held from dusk to dawn. These parties will not only be playing music in contempt of the High Court’s order, but The Goan’s inquiries also revealed that most international DJs on tourist visas also violate the travel permit.
Goa Forward party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai took to Twitter alleging that the government and the police are conniving with the drug-laced parties in the State. “COURT ORDER BE DAMNED! There’s no better evidence of @GovtofGoa and @Goa_Cops conniving and colluding with drug-fuelled rave party organisers while they punish #local #Goemkars for weddings @DrPramodPSawant run anti-#Goan #govt, music is money, loud music is big money!” he tweeted.
Commenting on Sardesai’s tweet, GFP Vice President Durgadas Kamat said, “BJP Govt led by @DrPramodPSawant = Vultures!”
Tweeples also reacted to these event promos with one of the users ‘GoanFirst’ admitting that loud music was in full swing during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“Last year we spent Xmas (Christmas) in Goa @ Morjim due to covid lockdown…you could hear loud music right in the village till 4 am… It looks like all North coastal belt is the same story,” reads the post.
Angry netizens also questioned why festive parties besides weddings were brought under the restrictions whereas some beachside night party organizers are challenging the government’s rules.
