Except for the migrant-dominated Zuari Nagar in Sancoale village, there were no long queues at the polling booths. In Zuari Nagar belt which comprises six wards, long queues were being witnessed even in the afternoon. In these six wards, the voter-base ranges anything around 1,500 to 2,400 voters. Two wards of Sancoale, wards 5 and 6, will go to polls on July 1.
The ST-dominated Quelossim village went for the polls first time as a separate panchayat.
Former sarpanch and Cansaulim panch Martha Saldanha was confident that her panel would win the elections. Another prominent candidate contesting the polls is former deputy sarpanch Jose Maria Furtado in Cuelim.
In Cortalim, prominent among those contesting the polls are former panch Raymond De Sa and former deputy sarpanch Merciana Vaz, wife of independent Cortalim candidate Anthony Vaz.
Former deputy sarpanch and Cortalim ZP member Cynthia D’Silva and former sarpanch Hillario Figueiredo are in the fray in Quelossim.
In Sancoale, prominent in the fray is former sarpanch Ramakant Borkar and former panchas Girish Pillai, Tulshidas Naik and Premanand Naik.
