Observing that industries are involved in discharging environmental pollutants in air and water thus polluting the air and water quality, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has directed all the industrial establishments including steel plants and hotels to install online system for continuous monitoring of stack emission, effluent discharge by them, on or before March 2024.
During its recent meeting, the Board issued directions to all industries, establishments and hotels having effluent treatment plant of 50 Kld and above and sewage treatment facilities of 100 Kld capacity and above and steel plants under red and orange category.
The steel units are directed to install Online Continuous Stack Emission Monitoring System (OCSEMS) and Continuous Ambient Monitoring Station (CAMS) as mentioned in the Consent to Operate not latter by March 31, 2024 in consultation with the Board.
The industries, establishments and hotels are asked to install an online effluent quality monitoring system at the outlet of effluent/ sewage treatment plants to measure the parameters like flow, COD, BOD, TSS and for other consented parameters as per the guidelines.
The units have to also connect and upload the online emission and effluent monitoring at the State pollution board and central pollution board server in a time bound manner.
“Industries in various States are discharging environmental pollutants directly or indirectly into the ambient air and water which post constant threat and cause adverse effects on water and air quality,” the Board member secretary said during the meeting.
