At a time when food and snack outlets are springing up across Goa, the directorate of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) tied up with Nestle and the National Association of Street Food Vendors of India (NASVI) to put some 40 street food vendors through a workshop where they were trained on hygiene and given tips.
The training programme was held earlier this week at the FDA's conference hall in Bambolim where the street food vendors were given tips on food safety and hygiene. The programme was the second edition of the “Serve Safe Food” training initiative which has an ultimate goal of training 1,000 street food vendors from across Goa.
FDA Director, Jyoti Sardesai, Corporate Affairs Manager at Nestle India Sanjay Bhandari and Prashant Naik, representing NASVI, spoke to the vendors about the importance of hygiene in street food. They also explained to the attendees the benefits they would accrue from the training.
Personal hygiene kits and food safety display boards were also distributed to the street food vendors on the completion of the training programme.
