One of North Goa’s most popular natural attractions, the Pomburpa spring, is set for a major facelift with the Centre sanctioning a Rs 3.3-crore development project under its flagship Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.

Once known as a hub of leisure and community gatherings, the age-old spring had lost its sheen over the years.

The project aims to restore the age-old spring’s charm while enhancing amenities for both tourists and locals.

The proposal focuses on improving the ambience of the site and developing it into a more visitor-friendly destination. Officials say the revamp will “restore its glory” while equipping it with modern, tourist-friendly amenities.

The project will cover every aspect of the site – from repairs to the spring structure and walkways, to a children’s play zone, food court, open-air exhibition space, landscaped therapeutic gardens, CCTV surveillance and full-site illumination.

Toilet and changing facilities will be completely rebuilt, while new signage, shaded seating and outdoor furniture will add to visitor comfort.

The project also envisions a medicinal and therapeutic garden, aligning with the scheme’s broader focus on sustainability and responsible tourism. Consultants INI Design Studio Pvt. Ltd. have prepared the plan, while the contract has been awarded to Bagkiya Construction Pvt. Ltd.

Officials stressed that the makeover is not just cosmetic.

“The vision is to create a sustainable, responsible destination that serves both tourists and locals,” an official linked to the project said.

Launched by the Ministry of Tourism, Swadesh Darshan 2.0 focuses on developing tourism spots across India in partnership with states and local bodies. The Pomburpa spring development will be among the flagship projects in Goa under the scheme.

Once completed, the revamped spring is expected to emerge as a model for eco-tourism – blending heritage revival with modern amenities and reaffirming Goa’s push to diversify its tourism attractions beyond the beaches.
