Amid growing public concerns over stray dogs biting children in Ponda, the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to initiate measures to address the issue by getting the stray dogs sterilised in the municipality.

With four children having been bitten by stray dogs at the Antruj Nagar area and other people being bitten by stray dogs in Shantinagar, Khandepar and Curti, concerned residents went to the deputy collector’s office to demand immediate action against stray dogs.

PMC Chairperson Anand Naik said the council plans to sterilise dogs this week with the help of an NGO. “We will provide space to the organisation to sterilise the dogs,” said Naik.

The issue of stray cattle has also surfaced in Ponda, as a number of mishaps have been reported on account of stray cattle roaming on the streets.

The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has recently set up a cattle pound in the Bethora-Nirankal Panchayat area to look after the stray cattle.
