The Ponda Sub-District Hospital (SDH) has treated 1,127 people for dog bites during 2024

The Ponda SDH has a special facility to treat dog bites and patients from various talukas are treated in the hospital for dog bite cases.

According to the information received from the Sub-District Hospital office, the patients were treated month-wise during 2024 were; January (56), February (118), March (114), April (95), May (125), June (81), July (73), August (51), September (100), October (120), November (94) and December (100). A total of 1,217 patients had been treated in the hospital in 2023.

There has been growing concern over the number of stray dogs in Curti, Betoda, Farmagudi, Dhavali, Haveli, Bonbag, Veling, Shiroda and other areas. Many people throw large amounts of wet household waste in plastic bags by the roadsides and stray dogs are present in large numbers to eat that waste. People residing at Varcho Bazaar are the worst affected and have had to face the menace of stray dogs.

PANAJI  The Goa government is expected to finalise the much-awaited 99-year lease agreement with the Loliem Comunidade this month to set up the coastal State’s first film city.
