The management of the higher secondary school in Ponda is likely to expel the Std XI student accused of stabbing an HSSC student at Farmagudi-Ponda on Thursday.
It may be recalled that the vocational stream student from a higher secondary school in Ponda allegedly stabbed a senior student from the same school twice in the abdomen with a dissection knife opposite PES College campus at Farmagudi, seriously injuring him.
Later, the accused surrendered to Ponda police, while the HSSC student was admitted in the ICU of GMC Hospital in Bambolim. Sources informed that the victim was recovering from the wounds.
"I had gone to GMC on same day and inquired about the condition of the victim. He was operated and I was told that he is out of danger. I am thankful to god that he is recovering," the school principal told The Goan.
The accused student from Silvanagar-Ponda has confessed to committing the crime and also told police that he used a dissection knife to stab the victim.
The knife is yet to be recovered, police said.
The incident has left teachers and students in shock with many of them discussing the issue on Friday.
Sources from the institute informed that the accused student had low attendance and the school management and PTA are likely to convene a meeting to discuss the issue.
"Our school management has taken this issue very seriously. We can't keep this boy in our school as he could create more problems to other students," said the principal.
According to the principal, the management will summon the parents of the accused student and will tell them to take leaving certificate. "There is a procedure to give time to the student to explain the event."
"But this case pertains to criminal activity. How will he justify his act which was done in public view and the incident being reported on social media," he asked.
Sources informed that since the incident is serious enough to potentially tarnish the institution's reputation, besides posing risk to other students in school, the accused will be asked to leave the school, instead of a suspension.
"Once someone is rusticated, he/she cannot answer exams for three years. Hence, it is in everyone's interest that this boy leaves our institution," said the principal.
